A very pretty and collectable item of late Georgian/very early Victorian sentimental acrostic jewellery c1830 - 1840, this pendant is crafted in gold of approx 15K (tested, unmarked) and set with a row of stones spelling out the sentimental motto 'REGARD' with their first letters - common in gifts between friends, as in 'I hold you in high regard/think of you often'.
 
In this era the stones were often paste rather than natural gems, but in this one we have a curious mixture of both - ruby paste, emerald paste, natural garnet, natural amethyst, natural ruby and 'diamond' substituted with clear quartz rock crystal (so a natural gem, just not an actual diamond!). This could be down to historical replacements or the maker's original choices.
 
The surrounding scrolled gold mount is set with little applied leaves in high relief, in a slightly different colour of gold and decorative balls.
 
To the rear is a sweet little usable oval locket compartment which is currently vacant. There are signs of a pin fitting being removed. 
 
MEASUREMENTS: Just over 1" top to bottom. 3.4g in weight.
 
CONDITION: Good to fair, wearable antique condition - please view all close-up photos and video. The probable pin removal to the rear isn't the neatest, though obviously this is not visible in wear. On close inspection there are small gaps in the left sides of the garnet and amethyst settings, difficult to tell if these have split somehow along a seam or just weren't closed up fully by the jeweller originally (seems more likely) but the stones are secure. There is a little pinhole to one leaf on the front right side, mentioned for complete accuracy. Any chains/display boxes shown are for photography purposes only.
