A very collectable and stunningly pretty, early piece of pansy jewellery - dating to the late Georgian era c1830, made using the cannetille goldwork technique in two-colour high carat (tested) gold, and set with five excellent quality paste stones in closed-back settings which appear to be foiled. The purple stones have deep pinkish-red notes when the light catches them - mesmerising!
The cannetille work is as fine and detailed as you would expect, with five trumpet flowers between the stones and daisy-like wirework flowers at their tips, with little granulated details between. The trumpet flowers are a paler, almost green gold, to contrast with the rest which is a rich yellow gold.
The pansy was a popular sentimental motif throughout the 1800s for the name's similarity to the French word pensée, meaning 'thought' - as in, 'thinking of you' or 'you are in my thoughts'.
MEASUREMENTS: Approx 1 1/8" top to bottom, not including top loops. 4.2g in weight.
CONDITION: Very good, wearable antique condition for its great age - please view all close up photos and video. On close inspection we could only find one very tiny detail loss, a tiny bit of wirework to the edge of one flower on the left side. Any chains/boxes are shown for display purposes only.
