A most unusual pair of 'dormeuse' earrings in 14/15K gold (tested). The shape, the enamel, the 'puffed' construction and fitting type suggest they are Biedermeier era (Germany c1840) or similar. They're marked with what appears to be '140', which we haven't been able to identify.

The fronts are decorated with fabulous white enamel leaves, very unusual - and seasonal, like a frosting of snow! The knot-shaped gold around them has a little ribbon/garter at the bottom and a nice, dark antique oxidation patina with slight iridescence, personally I thought this was quite eye-catching so have left it but it could be carefully polished if you prefer a more classic gold colour.

Instead of mirroring, the earring designs both point in the same direction, which we've seen before with other Biedermeier era earrings. The sophisticated hinged fittings are completely original, definitely not converted from anything else. They thread through the ear from the back and clip securely into the top of the earring.

MEASUREMENTS: 1" drop from the bend in the ear wires to the bottoms. 3.7g together in weight.

CONDITION: Good, wearable antique condition - please view all photos and video. Some white enamel is also present in places on the rears, which often seems to be the case on enamelled gold surfaces. Any display chains/boxes shown are for photography purposes only.
