The little Love-god lying once asleep
Laid by his side his heart-inflaming brand …
(Sonnet 154)
Another fierce and unusual piece, this one quite early - from around the Georgian Regency period, c1820 - depicting the emblems of a flaming torch and a quiver of arrows, crossed.
Made in silver with rose gold accents, and set with numerous little glinting rose cut diamonds, the largest ones to the torch's flame and the arrows' feathers.
Crossed emblems like this have been quite popular for centuries; the torch and arrows together are probably symbolic of Cupid/Eros who was classically represented as carrying both a torch and golden arrows to inflame and pierce the heart with desire.
The unusual shape gives it an arresting appearance in wear!
